Burma Issues Visas On Arrival

Print PDF

By KYAW THEIN KHA Tuesday, May 4, 2010

The Immigration Department announced on Monday that they have been giving visas on arrival to visitors of all nationalities at Rangoon and Mandalay International Airports since May 1. Speaking to The Irrawaddy, an immigration officer from the Visa on Arrival Department at Rangoon's International Airport said: “A tourist and social visa on arrival costs US $30 for 28 days. A transit visa with a duration of stay of not more than 24 hours costs $28, and a 70-day business visa, which can be extended through the respective ministry, costs $40.” Visas on arrival can be applied for online or at airline offices, the official said. The Myanmar Hotel and Tourism Enterprise has notified all travel agencies and tour companies of 17 regulations applicable to obtaining visas on arrival. The regulations stipulate that applicants for such visas must hold passports valid for at least six months. When in Burma, visitors may only conduct activities permissible in the type of visa they applied for, and they must not visit restricted areas. Tourists must report their place of residence to the relevant township immigration and national registration office while moving around the country.
